K-9 Carts East Medical Conditions:
Fractured Limbs

Theoretically, reduced weight bearing on a fractured or broken limb will aid in recovery. However, the early use of an unstable fracture increases the risk that the fracture will not heal or become a "non-union." Surgical intervention to stabilize a fracture with internal fixation aids in early stabilized weight bearing. This in turn lead to decrease healing time. Stabilized fractures allow the animal to dictate the amount of weight that the limb is able to bear based on comfort level.

A K9 Cart is not indicated due to the risk of creating instabilities, which may lead to non-unions at the fracture site. Occasionally, a handheld sling or K9 EZ Sling may be used during rehabilitation after surgery.
