The K-9 Cart Co East June Newsletter

Welcome to our June 2011 newsletter
How do we stack up....

Often owners call us asking us to compare the original K-9 Cart to other dog wheelchairs.  However, we seldom have the opportunity to assess our competitors.  Most people struggle to afford a single wheelchair and are unlikely to be able to purchase a second wheelchair when the first dog wheelchair does not work out.  Two years ago, we did compare our K9 Carts East wheelchair to our competitors on our blog. Almost immediately, a "growl" was heard from one of these competitors because we said their wheelchairs were heavy. Over the last few months, we've been watching Eddie's Wheels duke it out with Walkin' Wheels, who sells foreign-made, mass-produced dog carts. According to Eddie's wheels,

Walkin' Wheels are 20% heavier than Eddie's dog wheelchairs!  So how do K-9Cart.com dog wheelchairs compare in weight?  HandicappedPet.com wheelchair comparison about the our head-to-head comparison.

East - West Coast Rivalry
K9 Carts East and West are not the same!

Originally the plan was to provide K9 Carts from East and West Coast locations based on Dr. Parkes' dog wheelchair patent to better serve the public.  However, over the past several years, K-9 Carts West has chosen to not take advantage of the constant upgrades, improvements, and innovations undertaken by Dr. Parkes at K-9 Carts East.

"Pablo," a French Bulldog from New York City was

fortunate enough to find K-9 Cart Co East after having purchased an K9 Carts West Design (aka Pet Mobility Rehab). The poor leg ring padding and small wheels on K-9 Carts West cart had led to instabilities giving Pablo groin ulcerations.  Not only was Pablo much happier in a K-9 Cart Co East dog wheelchair, Dr. Parkes was able to revamp his other cart so now Pablo has a cart for home and one for the shore.  to see Pablo's video.

Lift up that hind end...

Walkabout___Rear_4

We are partial to our K-9 Cart exclusive EZ Sling, which is based on our padded leg ring support, for a rear harness. The Walkbout rear harnesses, which are designed and sold by Cathy Erwin for a long, long time, show her ingenuity and care for dogs! These neoprene harnesses give a lot of support and have sturdy handles. The thing owners like the most is that once you put them on, you can leave them on. Since Cathy is from California, we think she was inspired by the surfers, but we are not sure about that.  Just make

sure that if you leave the harness on your dog in a hot climate that your pet does not overheat. Walkabout Rear Harness about Walkabout rear harnesses at K-9Cart.com.

News & Events:
Water, water, everywhere....

We always offer free final custom fittings of our dog wheelchairs if you come to Oxford, MD. Oxford is  a delightful small town located on a penisula of the Chesapeake Bay. Although a town of less than 750 residents, there is lots to do besides visit Dr. Parkes, get a dog cart, and eat blue crabs in Oxford. Another interesting event is the Oxford Picket Fences on show until October 2011. Yes, good fences do make good neighbors, and they are also good for business too.

Oxford is also hosting the 23rd Oxford Cardboard Boat Races on June 25, 2011. Made of biodegradable materials, the craftsmanship and seaworthiness is impressive. Even more impressive is all proceeds benefit the Special Olympics - a cause that may be near and dear to owners of handicapped pets.

Later in the summer, Oxford will host two regattas.  The Oxford Regatta is in mid-August. It is always a treat to see the log canoes races - another part of the Chesapeake Bay heritage.  Pictures from previous races can be found on Dr. Parkes' facebook photo albums.

If you have any news or events coming up in the next few months, feel free to post these items on our facebook fan page or our K-9 Cart dog wheelchair forum.
